Last Saturday Sweet Fiber Yarns attended the 15th annual Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto, put on by the Downtown Knit Collective. We can’t thank the organizers and the customers enough for such a fun, fibre filled day! It was our first time as a vendor at the show and we really enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many knitters and vendors from the Toronto area (and beyond!).

Below is a list of what we had on display that day.

We’re really excited to be attending our first Knitter’s Frolic this year! In a couple of days we’ll flying to Toronto with our bags packed full of the yarn we’ve been busy dyeing this past month. I know winter may be lingering a tad longer than many would like in Toronto this year, so we’re bringing along sock yarns and silk blends to get you started on your spring and summer knits!

Speaking of spring, our friend Marilyn at 88 Stitches knit this beautiful Rae by Jane Richmond with one skein of our Cashmernio Sock in Moss. Simply constructed and cleverly shaped this scarf is one of those perfect accessories that can be worn all year long. We’ll have it at the Frolic this year for you to see and try on.

A big thank you is in order to all of the wonderful knitters who took the time to visit the Sweet Fiber booth this year at Stitches West. It was great meeting many of our customers in person, as well as meeting and chatting with many new ones throughout the weekend. Below you will find the list of yarns, samples and books we had at the show, along with links to their Ravelry pages. We may not have taken as many pictures as we would have liked (it was just too darn busy!) but we did manage to sneak in a couple before opening night.

Next week we will be debuting three new designs by three Canadian designers at our Stitches West booth (#1041 & 1041). Each design will be a pre-release available for purchase exclusively at our booth (while supplies last). The patterns won’t be available elsewhere until April 1st 2013.

Caramel Slouch by Alexa Ludeman of Tin Can Knits

Just like pumpkin pie means a sweet treat and a gathering of family, this slouchy confection combines two of my favorite things: cables and lace! Once the brim is complete it is smooth sailing, just some simple stockinette to keep you cozy.

Sizing: Baby (Toddler, Child, Adult S/M, Adult L)

Yarn: 1 skein of Cashmerino Worsted – shown in Spiced Pumpkin

Needles: US #7 / 4.5 mm (any type) and US #9 / 5.5 mm 16 inch circular and double pointed needles (or size required to meet gauge)

Gauge: 18 sts / 4” in stockinette stitch using larger needles

At the show we’ll also have copies of Tin Can Knit’s first published book – 9 Months of Knitting available for purchase.

For more information about Tin Can Knits’ designs and books check them out on Ravelry or visit their website here.

Wellington by Jane Richmond

“This textural hat features a simple repeating pattern reminiscent of raindrops. Using a unique combination of stitches to mimic the look of a cabled honey comb stitch without the need of a cable needle, this stitch pattern only looks difficult. Inspired by the rainy weather indicative of west coast winters, this hat satisfies both form and function.”

Sizing: Adult S/M (Adult M/L)

Yarn: 1 skein of Merino Twist Worsted – shown in Worn Denim

Needles: US #6 / 4 mm  16 inch circular and double pointed needles (or size required to meet gauge)

Gauge: 19 sts / 4” in stockinette stitch

At the show we’ll also have copies of Jane Richmond’s first published book – ISLAND available for purchase.

For more information about Jane Richmond’s designs and book you can find her on Ravelry or visit her website here.

Thurlow by Melissa Thomson

Sizing: One size, to fit 20-23 in / 51-58 cm circumference

Yarn: 1 skein of Cashmerino Worsted – shown in Spanish Coin

Needles: US #6 / 4 mm  16 inch circular, US #7 / 4.5mm 16 inch circular and double pointed needles (or size required to meet gauge)

Gauge: 20 sts / 4” in stockinette stitch

With little over two weeks left before market preview night we’re getting very excited here at Sweet Fiber Yarns! We finished packing the last few boxes of yarn today and put together a little preview of what you will find at our booth.

At Stitches West 2013 we will be debuting a new (favourite) colourway of ours, Temperate! Temperate captures the luscious greens and subtle browns of the rainforest coast we call home. We’ll have a limited amount available at the show on many of our favourite bases.

Also at the show you can expect to find a great selection of our Yarn Candy stitch markers in both big and small sizes. Each sets comes with a tiny glass bottle to store them in as pictured above.

Check back next week when we’ll announce the release of several new designs (by some of our favourite local designers) that will be available exclusively at our Stitches West booth (#1041 & 1043)! The market floor map can be found here.

This quick-to-knit worsted weight shawl takes just under two skeins of our Cashmerino Worsted. Beginning with the lace porion you work your way upwards, shaping the body with short rows and finishing off with several rows of garter stitch.

What a beautiful combination of simple stockinette and eye catching lace!

Lolli Socks are a blend of candy inspired colours that create organic stripes and swirls when knit up as socks. Reminiscent of neon slouch socks and mouth watering hard candies these bright socks are sure to knock your shoes off!

While creating Lolli Socks we wanted something fun and stripey without losing the qualities that make hand dyed yarns so great. Each stripe is a little different as one colour transitions into the next and the results are stunning. Here at the Sweet Fiber Studio we’ve found a 64 stitch sock circumference (at a gauge of approx. 28sts/4″) to work beautifully. But please feel free to experiment, there’s so many possibilities!

Lolli Socks will be available in two of our favourite sock yarns:

Lolli Socks SSS (aka Super Sweet Sock) 379m/415y per 155 gram skein
Lolli Socks MCN (aka Cashmerino Sock) 340m/372y per 115 gram skein

Lolli Socks are available online at the Sweet Fiber Shop.

Two summers ago we began our journey of the hand dyed. Taking our love of luxury yarns and our artistic knowledge of colour we began experimenting and perfecting. We first became known as Yarn Candy, Sweet Fiber and and this spring we’ll be transitioning into our new identity, Sweet Fiber Yarns. Our original yarns and colourways will be continued as we introduce new ones this coming spring.
